INTERVIEW
What
got you into bodybuilding?
My older brother George motivated me to start lifting and
training hard as a kid. I have competed as a world class
wrestler most of my athletic career and
have been on 4 National championship teams at the university
of iowa where I
was a varsity letter winner.
Who
has been your biggest influences?
My Brother, Mom, Dad and my wife who all have kept me strong
through my life with their love, compassion and support.
What
are the most important things you've learned since you started?
I think the most important lesson I have learned is to be
kind and gentle
with people- a lot of people see me and think I'm not going
to be nice and
when I am it surprises them to see I am a normal person
as they are. Training is something that has always been
exciting for me and I truly love to exercise and be the
gym.
Nutrition
is the hardest! I have just recently come to understand
how important food can be! What food you put in your mouth
really can make or break a champion!
What's
the best thing you've ever done for your bodybuilding career?
Staring to eat clean and drinking enough water thru each
and every day - Two
years ago! The greatest day in bodybuilding for me was winning
my Pro card at the
Masters Nationals in 2007 in the Superheavyweight and overall
class! Crazy
Things happen! and I'm proof!
What's
the biggest mistake you've made?
Not competing through my late 20's and 30's- Dumb!
Describe
your training style, how does it change from off-season
to contest
prep? My training is heavy in the off season with one workout
per day and a little
cardio - and moderate during the pre-contest phase- I up
my cardio to 2-3 hrs per day
and train twice per day.
Where
do you see yourself in 10 years?
Still bodybuilding, but not as hard and hopefully in Hawaii
What
are your bodybuilding goals? What do you need to do to get
there?
My goals at 41 are realistic i know my new career is not
going to last to long but I'd like to compete in as many
pro shows the next 5 years and hopefully win a pro show
qualifying for the Olympia!
Who
are your favorite bodybuilders and why?
Troy Zuccolotto has always been a favorite because of his
mass and symmetry and has become a close friend the past
couple of years helping understand what limits and gains
I can attain.
Dave Palumbo -because of his freaky condition and friendship.
Tom Platz - Legs, Legs, Legs and his positive smile and
attitude
and Arnold as he motivated through many photo's in the magazines
through the
years!
Tell
me about your approach to nutrition?
Pre-contest is zero carbs, high protein and moderate fats-
Lots of turkey-fish-chicken-Raw Tuna and nits, mainly almonds.
Some plain salad and green beans with lots of diet Kool-aid
and Diet Mt. Dew>
Off-season
is much the same but I up carbs after training with rice-applesauce-oatmeal
and in the afternoon with rice and sweet potatoes.
Online
diet and training is offered for fat reduction and show
prep!
